Driven by risky, sub prime mortgages, 'creative' lending, and
adjustable rate mortgages that can suddenly cripple a homeowner's
ability to pay, America is facing an epidemic of mortgage foreclosures.
The problem is rapidly spreading across the country but some areas of
the country are much more impacted than others. Nationwide, a total of
179,599 foreclosure filings
were reported nationwide in July. By August
the number had risen to 243,947. The following counties have the highest
percentage of households facing foreclosure. Click on the
